- Marsha Hamm, Professor at Gonzaga University
Teacher: Karen Kennedy, AA in Early Childhood EducationTeacher/Child Ratio: 1:6
Maximum Class Size: 12
Ages of Children: 2-3 years
Personal Background: I was born and raised in Spokane, Washington. I received my AAS degree in Early Childhood Education with a certificate in Child Development from Miramar College in San Diego, California while my husband was stationed there with the US Navy. I have taught at North Wall for 3 years. I chose the Early Childhood Field because I wanted children to have their first experience with school be a positive one. I have three grown children, a daughter and two sons, who all live in Southern California. In my spare time I like to sew, cook and read, and I am practicing my novice gardening skills.
Philosophy of Teaching: As an educator, I want to provide a respectful, safe, and nurturing environment that will help children recognize their talents and strengths. Each child comes to school with a unique background, ability and interests, and it is my responsibility to utilize this information to plan specific activities to meet each child’s needs. My goal is to provide a supportive environment in which the students have the confidence to learn through exploration with the assistance and encouragement from their teachers and peers.
