North Wall offers a unique approach to educating children. We apply the latest in brain research and teaching strategies to create an optimal environment for learning. The most recent research in brain development reveals that the more senses that are used in the learning process, the more information that is retained. Research also shows that when children make choices in their learning and have ownership in their work, the level of learning increases.
We therefore have created an environment in which children engage in hands-on activities which meet the needs of all different types of learners. We teach skills and concepts through themes that are interesting and relevant to the child. Subjects are interrelated, and many projects integrate several curriculum areas. Children are encouraged to develop skills in brain-storming, reasoning, critical thinking, problem-solving, and creative expression. The entire program is structured so that each child may advance at his/her own pace. We use a blend of Montessori, Gifted, and Reggio Emilia curriculum. Culturally relevant & anti-bias activities are intertwined throughout. The method of instruction is predominately individual choice and small group learning centers.
We offer Parent Conferences in the fall and winter to review all of the child’s assessments. We use multiple criteria to assess the progress and development of our students. In addition to Progress Reports for all ages, Standardized Reading and Math Assessments for Pre-Kindergarten and older.
